Trevithick Society Membership

Becoming a member of the Trevithick Society will open up the fascinating history of Cornwall’s industrial past and explain why it has had such an impact on economies around the World.

In addition to Richard Trevithick many other renowned engineers and industrialists have helped to shape the worlds mining and transport industries. They have also provided many of the raw materials which have led to the development of many of the technologies we now take for granted.

The Society has gathered together a unique group of individuals and organisations to bring its members an academic journal, a range of in-depth books, a programme of activities and lectures.

As a member you will receive our annual publication “The Journal of the Trevithick Society”. This expertly researched Journal contains in excess of 100 pages covering, not only mining topics, but details of long gone businesses, infrastructure and individuals. In addition a regular quarterly colour newsletter is published covering recent news and topics of interest and sent to all members. Direct contact and networking with other members, through the Society’s new website, is perhaps the most valuable benefit for members seeking more in-depth information on specific topics.

The Society has access to a wealth of information with more being digitised as time passes. Enquiries can usually be answered directly or by putting you in touch with other individuals or organisations that can help. Throughout the year the Society hosts lectures on a range of topics at its centres at King Edwards Mine near Camborne and The Public Hall in Liskeard. All lectures are free to members. It is also planned to make recordings of these lectures available via our website for those unable to attend in person.

The Society’s Annual General Meeting, which includes organised field trips, is also open to all members. If you are visiting Cornwall then as a member you will also benefit from free entry to: (on production of a valid membership card).

Discounts for members are also available on all items at the King Edward Mine shop and through the Trevithick Society’s on-line store. Finally, if you would like to be more involved? The Trevithick Society is always looking for volunteers to help with its many digital and online projects, restoration, archiving and promotional activities. Positions will be advertised from time to time for people with specific skill sets and interests. You can also volunteer without waiting for posts to be advertised 🙂 If you have any enquiries regarding membership please contact the Membership Secretary. An online membership form is available on this website and also a downloadable PDF document and a Direct Debit Mandate, but please note these need to be printed, completed and sent to the Membership Secretary with your remittance. If you cannot print the form we will gladly send you one.
